20 August 2004 - 1:15Swift Boat Veterans

The New York Times has some information about the backing of the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth group. As it turns out, the Times says their investigations led to the discovery of connections between the Swift Boat group and Karl Rove and the Bush Family. The Swift Boat veterans group appears to be an “astroturf” movement to me. Even their website makes me think it has been designed to appear grassroots. If you were a major group that has purchased TV ad time, why would you use an URL like http://swift1.he.net/~swiftvet/ for your site? They own the domain swiftvets.com, but clicking on several of the links redirect to the less official URL.

Related is the recent episode of the Daily Show in which Jon Stewart exposes the Swift Boat Veterans and interviews Bill Clinton. I have a copy of it. Let me know if you’d like to watch it.

I’d really like to see that episode. I screwed up my PVR entry (or my son did) and I missed it. Any chance you could make it available to me somehow? -Thanks

  2. Swift Boat Veterans for Lying
Well, I haven’t really discussed this topic enough. The so-calledSwift Boat Veterans for Truth has plenty of supporters, but then again there are plenty of normal people who disagree and see their true purpose. Then of course there are the smart peo…

I would be interested to know who these Veterans are , by name, and how many of them were actually present at the incidents of Senator Kerrys different injuries. It seems we have a bunch of innuendo, with these people hiding behind their website. Reminds me the Klan hiding behind their robes, smearing those they oppose with their hate speech and symbolic lynchings. That Mr Kerry, like myself, enlisted in the military and went to Viet Nam, is in itself, proof of who is the better man. Mr. Bush hid from the war at home, while Mr Kerry served his country. May this national nightmare, the Bush Administration, soon be a thing of the past. God Bless America

Swift boat veterans absolutely tell the truth, evidently your staff has not done their homework, but then what do we expect from an organization that regularly colors the truth? Look back on Kerrys speeches, research what he did after the war, find the military records of those that worked with him to fight the Vietnam war, you may well find that some of those people were not veterans, that Kerry was actually working with the communists. Your a news organization why do you only report what you want? How about telling both sides of the story? If you really did a thorough job of reporting you would find tha Bush and his family are not involved with swift boat veterans. Wake up, it is far to important for our country to be on the side of this that will take care of all of us. Integrity and the ability to follow through will be the only way out of terrorisim, politics are not going to save us from another 9-11. Being able to STAND UP for our country, STAND UP FOR OUR MILITARY and not turn Iraq into another Vietnam style because you like Kerry, our young men and women are fighting for us HAVE THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE AND QUIT PLAYING POLITICS WITH OUR COUNTRY WHEN IT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT TO STAND TOGETHER.

I find it hard to believe that the American Public can’t see what is going on here. Kerry fought and bled while W. didn’t even have the nads to show up for National Guard duty. He doesn’t have the right to send our sons and daughters to die for his personal vendetta against Saddam. He and Cheney are world class liars, and it embarrasses me that he is the leader of MY country.

Debbie Buchanan, you scare me, and others who think, and believe as you do the truth of what is going on in The Republican/Neo-Conservative Party is clear as the sun, America has been lied to by Bush/Cheney, and the SBVFT, clear lies, with FACTS to back it up, Republican-funded Group Attacks Kerry’s War Record, and you have the nerve to spew your words laced, with patriotic verb, you hid behind, the words playing politics with our soldiers, but you refuse to see the truth, Bush/Cheney are consummate liars, and your a ardent believer of there lies.

how about one more 527 to match the swift boat gang that is about to begin in the battle states. It goes like this..
“Average americans for common sense. Why would any american vote for two draft dodgers to be commander in chief of our armed forces. It just doesn’t make sense”

Debbie, I can see that someone else on this site other than me has done their research. I too believe that Kerry is a
liar and that the SBV are based on fact. Yes, we all know that John Kerry served with the armed forces and went to
Vietnam, but people seem to forget that as soon as he got out he not only threw away the medals he had “earned” but that
he was an avid supporter of Jane Fonda.
And anyone who doesn’t know who she is has no right to say anything about Bush lying, or Kerry being a veteran. Just
that fact about Kerry tells me that whatever ads are put out about him or Bush, W. is the better man of the two.
He may not have served overseas, but he also didn’t betray his country.

  9. [...]QUIT PLAYING POLITICS WITH OUR COUNTRY WHEN IT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT TO STAND TOGETHER.

Politicians never stop playing the game, no matter how you slice it. If they went from being rich kids to Commander In Chief, they can’t afford to stop playing the game. If you want them to stand together, let’s just put both into office. They’ll stand right next to each other, guns pointed at each other behind their backs.

you guys ought to be ashamed of yourselves. when you build on lies - or, just one lie - you’re pretty much done. how can you defend bush - all of us that were there in houston know you all are full of crap. you’re telling a story that we lived and you have it all wrong. ask cal adger. he might have the guts to go against these people. they were then and are now dangerous in so many ways.

  11. John Linthicum, he ABSOLUTELY can and may: he’s the commander in chief. STOP smoking dope!.. And this is not a “personal vendetta”. It’s a war, silly…

    Sir,
It seems that you would back or defend any lies that John Kerry feeds the media. He has
lied time and time again about his military service. He should get on his knees and kiss
the Vietnam Veterans butts for what he did, an only to advance his corrupt political career.
It would be a pleasure to meet him face to face and tell him this, but we both know what a
coward he his. If he is any kind of man, then let him answer to the vets and stop hiding
    behind his money.
