Last weekend was 3Pi-Con. I acted as tech director for this con (not a huge job), although working a con is a lot of work no matter how big it is. This year I also acted as an official photographer, and I’m really happy with the way things turned out. You can see the official photos at http://photos.pi-con.org. I mostly shot with the EF 24-70 f/2.8L this year, and unlike last year I had the luxury of a Canon Speedlite. The con environment is challenging, but good photo tools make it a lot easier to shoot.
One of the highlights of this year’s con was our two excellent Guests of Honor: Cory Doctorow and Randall Munroe. I have known Randall for many years - since before xkcd.com - but this is actually the first time Randall has met Cory. On Sunday they did a panel together detailing their “day at work.” Cory wore a cape and goggles as in the comic Blagofaire.

Randall demonstrates the time wasting potential of isitchristmas.com.

Randall tries on the goggles.

Posed picture at the end.

Cory and Randall sans cape and goggles.
Please do check out the rest of the photos! Enjoy!

Is it me, or has Cory now addressed the scourge of sagging eyeballs with the gentle support of a rigid plastic face-brassiere?

There’s a reason why glasses like those that Cory is wearing are referred to as “BCDs”

Binary Coded Decimals? :)

“BCD” stands for Birth Control Device, cuz if you have to wear something like this, there is no way you are going to get laid! Or so the saying goes. It’s military slang for the super big, super thick (and close to indestructible) glasses issued to soldiers in need of corrective eye wear. - Of course, the irony of this situation is that Corey became a father not too long ago, so… Anyway, hope that helps! - Senseless Babble

What kind of mini tablet pc is Randall using?

It is a Fujitsu p1610.

The cape and goggles are a reference to This XKCD comic strip. It’s a running gag for fans of both the comic and Doctorow.

Sorry, I screwed up the Hyper link in the last post. Here’s the strip. Sorry.
