[isomerica-user] Status updates and upgrade notes

The new server is currently up and running on our Newmarket network.
Installation is largely complete and most services are already up and
running. Because the server is so loud, and other reasons, I'm going to
move it into the data center the afternoon of November fourth. However,
accounts won't be activated and services won't be moved until some time
later.

Mail (IMAP, POP, SMTP) users:

Some new host aliases have been set up. If you use these now you should
be protected from having to change any hostnames in the future.

	For receiving mail (POP/IMAP): mail.isomerica.net
	For sending mail: (SMTP): smtp.isomerica.net

Is anyone still using pop-before-smtp? SMTP-Auth is currently
working fine and unless there is a specific request I do not plan to
	set up pop-before-smtp on colobus.

DNS users:

I have converted and transfered zonefiles to the new machine as well
as implemented a solution for automatically updating the zonefiles
when DNS users edit them. I plan to move over isomerica.net's DNS
to the new machines earlier than moving other services over. It
	should be relatively straightforward.

NS2 (threepwood) will remain active as a secondary for some time.
Currently the only change I have made to your zonefiles during the
move was to change ns1.isomerica.net to colobus.isomerica.net. You
will only need to make one change once the new nameserver goes live
which is to update your register and change ns1.isomerica.net to
colobus.isomerica.net. Then you should let me know so I can make
colobus start answering requests for your domain.

Eventually gnat and threepwood will cease to be name servers.
Sinuralan (leaf.lumiere.net) has graciously offered to take over as
secondary for domains which are currently using both those hosts.
This will be ideal also because your nameservers will be
geographically isolated. Please let me know if you would like me to
	arrange this.

Currently users have shell accounts on the new machine but they are
disabled for login. They will become enabled in a batch on the day mail
and web services are moved over. This is to prevent any funky issues
with multiple homedir versions and mail boxes.

One more caveat: If you currently use FTP at all you should switch to
SCP/SFTP as FTP will not be available on the new server for security
reasons. I recommend WinSCP for Windows and Fugu for MacOS X.

Thanks for your patience,
Dan
